I grew up in the southwest—California Missions,
snakes and constant threat of drought weaving the backdrop of my childhood. But it wasn’t until I moved to Texas as an adult that the magic and mythology of the American West began to seep into my soul.
I love American history. I love the west. And I’d love to write these stories for a long time.
Growing up in the American Southwest, surrounded by wide-open landscapes and the lingering echoes of frontier life, I came to historical fiction the same way many readers do: through a book that felt like home. For me, that book was Anne of Green Gables. There was something about L.M. Montgomery’s gift for intimacy, humor, and deeply human storytelling that stayed with me. When it came time to write my own stories, the frontier felt like a natural setting, and Montgomery’s warmth became my compass.
My books feature women who are unconventional in the best ways—observant, resourceful, and quietly determined. They navigate both the freedoms and challenges of life on the nineteenth-century American frontier while discovering their own strength and purpose. The communities they live in are just as important as the protagonists themselves: neighbors who show up when they’re needed, rivalries that soften over time, and love that grows slowly and endures.
I am the author of the Juniper Falls series and the Oregon Trail catalog, including Courage on the Oregon Trail. I love writing stories for readers who enjoy historical fiction that feels like a long visit with someone who genuinely understands people.
When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me rereading a favorite book for the fourth time—or planning the next story I can’t wait to tell.
